Account Manager - Technical Sales Engineer
Job Description:
Responsible for expanding our design wins and revenue producing customers, also for planning, organizing, and directing the overall customer strategy. This person will achieve design wins, sales volume and profits consistent with corporate objectives and coordinates pre-sales and applications support in field locations by performing the following duties.
The following traits are highly valued:
- Works with the local sales organization (direct sales rep or sales rep firm) to define overall target account strategies for sales and applications territory.
- Coordinates customer relationships to ensure successful partnering (both internally and externally) is sustained in order to achieve profitable revenue and customer satisfaction.
- Develops an understanding of the customer's business strategy and applies technical knowledge to develop the best solution that meets customer needs.
- Participates in the development of the account strategy and plan within the geographic territory to provide the best solutions and coverage to the assigned accounts.
- Manages customer expectations and monitors/coordinates Peregrine activities within the account(s) to ensure that contractual commitments are met and financial/customer satisfaction objectives are attained.
- Identifies and develops new business opportunities within the assigned accounts to increase revenue generating opportunities.
- Reviews and monitors project performance versus objectives at the assigned accounts and recommends improvements, develops alternate solutions and assists in problem resolution to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Assists sales reps in qualifying, proposing, configuring, promoting and delivering Peregrine technologies and other related services. Assignments range in complexity from analysis and problem solving to assisting in the development and delivery of technology based business solutions. Mentors other applications and sales employees.
- Provides advice and guidance to sales representative by translating the customer's business needs into a recommended solution.
- Conceptualizes the design and implementation phases to facilitate effective implementation of the recommended technologies and products.
- Supports the sales representative in pre-sales activities including proposal preparation, configuration, installation and related technical services.
- Provides and/or coordinates the delivery of technical support/services in order to maximize customer satisfaction and Peregrine revenues and profits.
- Maintains advisory relationship with the customer to continually add profitable value-added technical support to the customer.
- Provides technical support to ensure quality of the solution, and that customer satisfaction objectives are met.
- Performs technical support activities such as benchmarks, demonstrations, presentations, competitive and performance analysis.
- Develops and maintains technical proficiencies in required and emerging skill areas.
- Meets with customer engineers to provide sample parts, conduct demos, and to answer technical questions, and attempts to convince prospective customer of desirability and practicability of products or services offered.
- Conducts customer cold calls with Sales Rep to introduce Peregrine products and provide technical information.
- Provides technical support and assists sales reps in demonstrations or on sales calls.
- Promotes the image and builds the reputation of Peregrine in the territory region.
- Coordinates the exchange of technical information and issues with the business unit or segment. Works closely with customer engineers to resolve any application or systems level issue or problem.
- Provides technical liaison support in manufacturing ramp to production with the customer and internal Peregrine manufacturing operations.
- Develops customer relationships primarily at the design engineer level but may also develop more extensive customer relationships based on the account and geographic territory.
- Gathers and reports competitive intelligence back to business units/segments regarding competitor activities and products.
- Assist the sales reps and distributors in educating them as to Peregrine technology and products.
- Provides training to customers on the use and attributes or benefits of Peregrine products.
- Oversees manufacturing ramp to production to make certain customer processes result in quality products meeting specifications.
- Assesses problems with parts and troubleshoots customer problems involving Peregrine products and also at a systems level on the customers' product.
- Confers with customer engineers to implement operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions.
- Develops models of alternate processing methods to test feasibility of new applications of parts or components, and recommends implementation of improved procedures.
- Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in field.
- Confers with employees in other departments such as marketing, sales, product development, and technology to provide technical information.
- Provides technical training to employees of client.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directs the FAE in relation to customer design/application requirements.

Education and/or Experience:
BS and 8 - 10 years of experience
MS and 5 - 8 years of experience
Ph.D. and 3+ years of experience
Business education/training is highly desired
Minimum of 5+ years of sales/marketing experience in related field
Familiarity with Peregrine products/customer base and markets
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Must be a self-starter, be able to work with minimal supervision and have excellent problem solving skills.
Location:
This position is available in North America with preference to the Chicago or New England Design Centers.
