Radar

Radar is transitioning from a passive-phased-array architecture to an active-phased-array architecture. The complexity of these systems increases as the number of elements in the array increases, but an active system allows radar to support multiple tasks simultaneously, improves detection sensitivity and increases the overall reliability of the system.

Phased arrays were initially used in ground and airborne radars and space-based communication systems and continue to proliferate to related markets, such as VSAT and anti-collision “short range” radar, automatic (or adaptive) cruise control “long range” radar for automotive applications. The combined RF performance and CMOS integration capabilities of Peregrine Semiconductor’s UltraCMOS® technology, as well as its inherent radiation hardness, low power consumption, high linearity and high reliability provide a solution that is ideally suited for the phased-array antenna elements, in comparison to traditional III-V offerings.

Peregrine has a broad portfolio of products for phased array and radar applications including power limiters, phase shifters, digital step attenuators and switches.
