Consumers continue to drive the explosive growth in data consumption in both wireless and wired markets. To support this growth, next-generation wired and wireless standards are being rolled out. For the wired connections, DOCSIS 3.1 will start to enter the market in 2015. For the wireless standard, the transition to LTE is well underway and the introduction of carrier aggregation and VoLTE has also started in earnest.
Irrespective of the transmission medium, the new standards are growing in complexity and are making use of higher order modulation schemes. Accordingly, advanced RF semiconductor solutions are evolving to deliver increased functionality, performance and reliability across a broad array of markets, while simultaneously achieving smaller form factors and lower cost per function.
Communications covers multiple markets including mobile devices, wireless infrastructure (including small cell, non-line of sight (NLOS) and line of sight (LOS) backhaul solutions), land-mobile-radio (LMR), wired broadband and Wi-Fi.
