Communications

Consumers continue to drive the explosive growth in data consumption in both wireless and wired markets. To support this growth, next-generation wired and wireless standards are being rolled out. For the wired connections, DOCSIS 3.1 will start to enter the market in 2015. For the wireless standard, the transition to LTE is well underway and the introduction of carrier aggregation and VoLTE has also started in earnest.

Irrespective of the transmission medium, the new standards are growing in complexity and are making use of higher order modulation schemes. Accordingly, advanced RF semiconductor solutions are evolving to deliver increased functionality, performance and reliability across a broad array of markets, while simultaneously achieving smaller form factors and lower cost per function.

Communications covers multiple markets including mobile devices, wireless infrastructure (including small cell, non-line of sight (NLOS) and line of sight (LOS) backhaul solutions), land-mobile-radio (LMR), wired broadband and Wi-Fi.

Mobile

The growing worldwide demand for mobile wireless communications and mobile multimedia applications is driving the proliferation of mobile devices. The evolution of mobile wireless networks from predominantly voice-centric networks to advanced high-speed networks that deliver voice, video and data is enabling consumers to access bandwidth-intensive, rich media content on mobile devices through applications such as videoconferencing, streaming media and interactive gaming. With over 40... Read more

Wireless Infrastructure

The combination of an increasing global subscriber base, expansion of advanced wireless networks and the proliferation of powerful devices offering high-speed wireless internet access has dramatically increased mobile data traffic. This increase in data traffic is straining the existing wireless network infrastructure. As a result, operators are expanding their network capacity by acquiring additional wireless spectrum and by aggressively deploying LTE, TD-LTE and LTE-A networks. In addition... Read more

LMR

Land-mobile-radio (LMR) is a wireless communication system used in public organizations such as emergency services; fire and police departments; and companies with large vehicle fleets and many in-field employees. It also includes the military radio market for secure radio systems. The LMR market is driven by the continued growth of efficient mission-critical operations and the integration of long-term evolution (LTE) network, which is leading to higher demand for LTE-integrated LMR... Broadband

Wired broadband covers many applications and products. Customer-premises equipment (CPE) is typically found in homes and includes routers, set-top boxes, home networking, smart TVs, etc. Headend equipment is the primary facility for receiving cable signals where the signals are processed and distributed.  Peregrine has developed a broad range of 50Ω and 75Ω products to support the large range of requirements. The broadband market requires a wide range of products, from simple glue switches... Read more

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is standards-driven wireless network technology that continues to show exceptional growth, driven by the ubiquitous adoption in smartphones and home networked solutions. The standard has evolved to meet the growing data needs; initial solutions supported less than 10 Mbps, with the most recent products supporting over 1 Gbps transmissions. Wi-Fi continues to grow with the introduction of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the continued growth of always-connected devices. The use of... Read more
