Peregrine Semiconductor Offers Highly Linear Broadband MOSFET Array

Performance and reliability ideal for medical, test and measurement applications

San Diego, California, May 16, 2011 – Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation, a fabless provider of high-performance radio-frequency (RF) integrated circuits (ICs), today announced the PE4141 broadband quad MOSFET array core. The PE4141 leverages Peregrine’s UltraCMOS™ technology to deliver combination of high linearity, strong low-frequency performance, monolithic integration and reliability that is ideal for mixer and multiplexer functions used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), medical instrumentation, and test and measurement applications.

The PE4141 features low conversion loss of 5.8dB, high linearity at 25dBm, and isolation of 44dB at 100MHz (LO to IF and RF to IF), making it ideal for low-frequency mixer applications. The PE4141 operates with differential signals at all ports (RF, LO, IF), which makes it possible to develop an analog multiplexer that uses LO ports as digital controls, and RF and IF ports as single-ended or differential inputs/outputs. The device also supports up conversion or down conversion in mixer applications.

“The PE4141 is manufactured on Peregrine’s UltraCMOS technology, which not only delivers the high linearity designers expect, but also ensures repeatable performance lot-to-lot,” said Mark Schrepferman, marketing director for Peregrine’s High Performance Solutions (HPS) business unit. “We’ve worked closely with our customers to integrate these important features into a single, low-magnetic package that lowers the impact to the magnetic field near the gradient coil in critical systems such as MRI equipment.”

Peregrine’s PE4141 was designed using a monolithic approach, which not only reduces component count and board area, but also is easier to implement and more reliable compared to discrete, GaAs-based MOSFET arrays.

The PE4141 is available now in volume production, supplied in the 8-lead MSOP package priced at $7.00 in 10K quantity orders.  Samples are available to qualified customers through Peregrine’s global sales representatives and its worldwide distribution partners.

About Peregrine Semiconductor

Peregrine Semiconductor is a fabless provider of high performance radio frequency integrated circuits, or RFICs. Our solutions leverage our proprietary UltraCMOS™ technology, which enables the design, manufacture, and integration of multiple RF, mixed-signal, and digital functions on a single chip. Our products deliver what we believe is an industry leading combination of performance and monolithic integration, and target a broad range of applications in the aerospace and defense, broadband, industrial, mobile wireless device, test and measurement equipment, and wireless infrastructure markets. UltraCMOS technology combines the ability to achieve the high levels of performance of traditional specialty processes, with the fundamental benefits of standard CMOS, the most widely used semiconductor process technology. UltraCMOS technology utilizes a synthetic sapphire substrate, a near-perfect electrical insulator, providing low parasitic capacitance and enabling high signal isolation and excellent broadband linearity. These attributes result in RF devices with excellent high-frequency performance and power handling performance, reduced crosstalk between frequencies, and enhanced network efficiency. We have engineered design advancements, including our patented HaRP™ technology which significantly improves harmonic and linearity performance, and our patent-pending DuNE™ technology, a circuit design technique that we have used to develop our advanced digitally tunable capacitor (DTC) products. We offer a broad portfolio of high performance RFICs including switches, digital attenuators, frequency synthesizers, mixers and prescalers, and are developing power amplifiers (PAs), DTCs, and DC-DC converters. Our products are sold worldwide through our direct sales and field applications engineering staff and our network of independent sales representatives and distribution partners.
