From Cable to 5G: The Importance of Linearity

In the October 2015 issue of Microwave Product Digest, Peregrine’s VP and GM of the High Performance Analog (HPA) business unit Duncan Pilgrim shared his opinion on the importance of linearity. In the op-ed, Pilgrim describes the need to improve the data capacity of both wired and wireless systems. He continues by explaining that data capacity can be added in two ways—increasing bandwidth or improving spectral efficiency. Pilgrim uses the example of the cable industry where the DOCSIS 3.1 standard “poses the most difficult linearity requirements.” He shares how Peregrine’s holistic approach enables the company to introduce high-linearity products that meet performance requirements, such as a part that meets the DOCSIS 3.1 cable standard. He ends the article by discussing the importance of system linearity as it relates to 5G.
